The stage is set. We’re ready to question - are you?
As of this date, the City of Evanston counts six (6) of its citizens willing and wanting to serve the remaining two-years of former Mayor Biss’ term. This temporary mayoral position will begin April 2027 and end March 2029 upon the regular election cycle for another four-year term. At CAGE, we are researchers, but most importantly we are citizens. We are grateful to these six individuals for entering the gauntlet.
The six candidates are: Jeff Boarini, Jane Grover, Gilo Logan, Stephanie Mendoza, Ann Rainey, and Jeff Smith.
We are not prepared to make an official endorsement yet, but we would be remiss to not mention Mr. Smith’s adamant championing of neighborhoods. His long tenure as President of Central Street Neighbors Association has assuredly helped its commercial occupancy, high property values, and small D65 class sizes. Matter of fact, some class sizes are so small, that District 65 closed Kingsley Elementary in CY 2025-2026 and is proposing to close Lincolnwood Elementary in CY 2026-2027. Well done, Central Street champions!
We look forward to engaging with the candidates and ensuring that appropriate growth remains centered. Appropriate, of course, as defined by the longest tenured home-owner Evanstonian, ideally with a senior tax exemption.
